Fundació puntCAT

Who we are

The .cat project is a civil society initiative. The Institute of Catalan Studies, the Catalan Broadcasting Corporation and the Catalan Chapter of the Internet Society are of particular importance as founding patrons of the Fundació puntCAT and for their support in the process of obtaining the domain. In addition to these organisations, 98 institutions and associations from throughout the Catalan-speaking world and from all of the different sectors of culture and activity, 2,615 businesses and 65,468 people lent their explicit support to the candidature of the .CAT domain, which significantly helped its success.

Because Fundació puntCAT is a non-profit institution, profits from the .CAT register are used to ensure the continuity and viability of the register, to foster the information society in Catalan-speaking areas and to take action to ensure that the domain is universally accessible.
